Church Polity
A sI was reading in 1 Samuel today i was reminded that any church or ministry can seemingly operate without true power from above. In the first chapters of 1 Samuel we see the Eli and his sons had completely lost contact with the Spirit's power and purpose within the temple ministry. They were simply gluttonous and immoral. Eli did nothing to correct it. I find it amazing that sometimes our churches are similar. We stagnate and the Spirit is not involved. We are simply "going through the motions". I find that my heart needs to be reminded of this amazing truth from these passages: That we must never separate the work of God from the Person of God. Indeed can we really work "for" God? We know at best we are co-laborers, however it is by His might as Isaiah says. May our ministires always be led by the Spirit. Often I find that the flesh and the Spirit struggle even within the body of Christ! There will be those who just want to keep operating, and then those who want to do what god is calling them to do which is rarely popular. May we guard our hearts in this way.
